I have a variety of different programs and classes available for conventions, guild meetings, photography schools and other functions. On this page you will find a description of each presentation, how long it usually lasts and other information. I often present multiple programs while at a convention. This can be cost effective for the organization hosting the event as several different programs can be acquired for a single speaking fee. Merit Making: The Art and Strategy by Scott Smith This program has been has been hailed by photographers all over the Southwest as one of the most needed and eye opening programs they have ever seen. Scott teaches some of the most unexpected strategies and philosophies about print competitions and merit making techniques. Scott goes far beyond the basics of impact, composition, and center of interest. He teaches photographers how to get inside the heads of the judges and think about image making from an entirely new perspective. Learn how to solve the problems of print making before the shutter is ever tripped. He explains how unusual wet dye techniques that nearly anyone can do will help make an ordinary image into a merit print. He also shows little known darkroom printing techniques that will produce near miraculous results. Photographers are taught entirely new ways to look at their photographs and leave the program anxious to reexamine their existing images to find the merits that were there all the time. Merit images that were hidden behind all of the traditional thinking that photographers have been exposed to for so many years. Lighting and Posing Made Simple by Scott Smith Scott teaches the fundamentals of studio portrait lighting and posing using a live model with studio lighting equipment. Newcomers and veteran photographers alike will find that there are many things that they never knew about routine portraiture. Pola-Painting: The Art of SX-70 Manipulation by Becky Smith (Presented by Scott Smith)

Pola-painting is the creative and exiting process by which an instant Polaroid SX-70 photograph is artistically manipulated and transformed into an image resembling an impressionistic oil painting. Scott Smith shows you how Pola-painting offers a creative outlet that is so rewarding, you may just become addicted! Scott's wife, Becky took SX-70 manipulation to new heights utilizing special tools, Adobe PhotoShop and advanced printing methods. Scott will discuss many different types of images ranging from scenics, to Pola-portraits! You will learn about the special tools used in the process along with many tips and techniques that are used to enhance images and make the creative process easy and enjoyable. This is not just another how to do it program but one that will immerse you in a huge variety of images including three multimedia slide shows with specially selected music. This program lasts two hours but may be extended to a five hour workshop with hands on learning for all participants.

Boudoir Photography: Made Simple by Scott Smith

This program has been praised by photographers because it takes the fear and mystery out of this very important yet misunderstood type of photography. Scott presents a wealth of information that’s exciting and simple to learn from. Scott shows images with unexpected and spectacular lighting and smoke effects and discusses how they were created. His simple to understand teaching method makes complicated lighting and posing seem like child's play. Scott shares the secrets of soft focus filters, proper selection of clothing including unexpected clothing ideas and the correct use of makeup for this type of photography. Making Weddings Better by Scott Smith

This program shows Scott’s unique method of photographing weddings. Never conventional, Scott takes many areas of weddings that can create problems and solves them in simple ways. Scott does not use previews for weddings nor does he do alter recall pictures. His customers make large purchases and there are few problems in the process. He will show how to correct many of the little things that get overlooked most of the time and turn into big problems. This is a real nuts and bolts program with many need to know items including information on couple and individual posing.
