Here are the more popular Kodak professional color
fims for general studio and location photography.

KODAK PROFESSIONAL PORTRA 160NC Film

Personal comment: This is the film I recommend for general, studio and location portraiture indoors. Flesh colors are excellent and contrast is moderate which makes it a perfect choice for portrait work.

Features natural colors and medium speed. Use 160NC Film for smooth, natural flesh tones in controlled lighting situations.

Film speed: ISO 160 for exposure times of 1/10,000 second to 10 seconds

Color balance: Daylight or electronic flash

Available film sizes: 35mm, 120, 220, sheets and long roll film.

Museum/Art/Copy
Portraiture (electronic flash)
Wedding (daylight and electronic flash)

Process: Process C-41, by user or independent processing laboratories

KODAK PROFESSIONAL PORTRA 160VC Film

Personal comment: I use this film for any situation where I want a little more contrast such as in a product shot. It also has a bit more color saturation than the 160NC which is also good for commercial product work or even occasional portrait work where I want a bit more of an exagerated color saturation.

Features vivid colors and medium speed. Use 160VC Film for rich, vivid colors in controlled lighting situations.

Film speed: ISO 160 for exposure times of 1/10,000 second to 10 seconds

KODAK PROFESSIONAL PORTRA 400NC Film

Personal comment: I would reserve this film for those rare situations when I have a lower than normal light level but still have a somewhat harsh quality to the lighting and/or scene. The softer contrast can improve on an overly harch lighting situation.

Features natural colors and high speed. Use 400NC Film for smooth, natural flesh tones on location.

Film speed: ISO 400 for exposure times of 1/10,000 second to 10 seconds.

KODAK PROFESSIONAL PORTRA 400VC Film

Personal comment: This is my film of choice for late afternoon outdoor portrait work. The light is very soft and get even softer as the light diminishes. The film not only gives me extra speed but but it elevates the color and contrast a bit to help overcome the softness of the evening light. This is especially helpful if I am using even a small amount of diffusion or soft focus in front of the lens.

Features vivid colors and high speed. Use 400VC Film for vivid colors on location.

Film speed: ISO 400 for exposure times of 1/10,000 second to 10 seconds
